We’re very excited to be bringing you our first event from one of the most inspiring woman we’ve met during our time in the APS department: Dr. Nicola Hemmings (pictured, left, with judge Lisa Jamieson after accepting the Society of Biology 'Established Researcher' prize for science communication). Researcher of all things sperm, science communicator extraordinaire, and super-woman in the eyes of all who attended the APS Christmastime lecture.

Nicola has been with the University of Sheffield since her undergraduate days – and she’s definitely made the department her oyster, gaining recognition for her love of animal behaviour and passion for science communication.

In her talk, Nicola plans to tell us about all the weird and wonderful things that come with being a scientist here in the APS department – and of course what she gets up to when she’s not standing in front of a lecture theatre or studying sperm under a microscope. Nicola has an incredible amount of experience and is an all-round awesome gal to have as a role model. Here’s just a couple of the things she dabbles with besides her research...

Horse-riding enthusiast, Alfred-Denny Museum public engager, panellist for FameLab Sheffield, organiser of APS Outreach events, science-advice blogger and Society of Biology award-winner! Phew! - No doubt she will have tonnes to talk to us about, so make sure you come along and be awestruck by her brilliant insight into the world of an APS scientist!

You can follow Nicola on twitter here, and check out her blog.

Come and see what she has to say on Thursday 12th of February in the BMS Conference Room (Alfred Denny), 5pm - 6pm.
